Hey there!
I’m Rich, the Arcade technician and manager Arnold’s Entertainment center! Today I wanted to talk to you today about one of my favorite Arcade Classics, Ms. Pacman!
While I love the new games, there is always a special magic about the good old arcade originals! They also hold up like nothing else! The “Ms. Pacman” here at Arnold’s is one I was able to save from getting thrown out, I was able to make some important repairs and saved the machine from utter DOOM! I definitely take a bit of pride in saving this gem.
“Ms. Pacman” was brought on as a sequel to the original smash hit Pacman and was seen as a way to draw more women to video games. Did it work? I’m not really sure, all I know is that my Grandmom absolutely loved it!
At first glance, while Ms. Pacman seems like it could be a carbon copy of the original, there are some subtle changes that make it unique. For example the ghost in this one are on semi-random, unlike the original where they are all on a predictable pattern. Ms. Pacman also has 2 warp tunnels on later levels, and cutscenes with a plot. One bizarre change is that they renamed Clyde (The Orange Ghost) to Sue in this one.
Thanks guys for joining me on this small dive into Arcade History!
Game on!
